Public Speaking House Competition 2024

Public Speaking House Competition 2024 by Miss Lauren

This past half term the school has had an English theme. This has consisted of a wide range of events from ‘Author Visits’, ‘Parent Readers’, ‘World Book Day’ and ‘6 Word Stories’. One of the key highlights of the term was the public speaking house competition. All students were invited to write and perform a speech on a given topic. Primary students were asked to write about ‘Why I love Nadeen School’ and Secondary students were given the stimulus of ‘Why is it Important to Read?’. The school had a fantastic response with lots of interesting reasons to explain their given topic.

I have always been welcomed and supported by everyone at Nadeen. I believe my uniqueness is my asset.

Lots of entries were submitted and our School House Captains were given the difficult task of choosing a winner from their house for Lower Primary and one representative from Upper Primary. Two winners were selected from Secondary, all of these winners gained house points for their House. The next challenge for the Upper Primary Representatives was to perform their speech in front of the whole Primary School in the weekly assembly. This twenty four hour challenge was met with determination from the students, and they left preparing their speeches for the final day.

Reading is important for any reason, it helps us improve our vocabulary language skills and critical thinking abilities. Reading also helps us to gain knowledge and explore new ideas.

During the assembly the four House representatives were invited to the stage and one by one performed their speeches in front of three judges. Each stood in front of the school with determination and confidence, and spoke with passion on their reasons why they loved the Nadeen. They had the audience enthralled. It was clear each student had worked hard, not only on the content of their speech but how they would present it to an audience. Students cheered as each representative finished and all students received extremely positive feedback from the judges. It was an extremely difficult decision for our judges but they selected a winner to receive 50 house points for their house.

All of the students were a fantastic representation of Nadeen School as they took on a challenge, personalised it and created many unique, fabulous speeches. Each student spoke with enthusiasm and we are already looking forward to this event next year!
