PE & Sport: Information & Monthly Update – by Nadeen PE Department
Dear Parents,
The first half-term has drawn to a close and we have thoroughly enjoyed all of the opportunities this has provided. It has been fantastic to make full use of the sports facilities and we have enjoyed watching the students develop their basketball, hockey and futsal skills in PE lessons, not to mention the plethora of sports opportunities provided in our ECA programmes. As we progress into the second half of Term 1, we are very much looking forward to beginning our swimming lessons and moving outside onto the pitch now that the weather has cooled.
Community Sports Festival
On Saturday 4th November, we hosted the inaugural Nadeen Community Sports Festival. It was hugely successful and was action packed from start to finish. Our community had the opportunity to try their hand at a number of different Basketball activities, as well as some badminton challenges. On our astro-turf pitch, academy partner 24N hosted mini football matches on their inflatable football pitches. We also had the first Staff vs Parents Basketball match. A hugely competitive game finished 20-18 to the parents, following a beat the buzzer point! It was a great way to finish off an exciting morning. Thank you to everyone who attended.
House Sports
We hosted an ultra-competitive House Sports Week at the end of Term 1.1. It was a great week with our students displaying their skills and sportsmanship whilst trying their best to earn house points! Our Year 3-5 students participated in a Futsal tournament, and our Year 6-9 students took part in a Basketball tournament. There was an array of fantastic skills on show, as well as exemplary levels of sportsmanship and teamwork. Well done to everyone who participated.
Curriculum PE
We are now into Term 1.2 and have started our Athletics unit across the school. Our Athletics leads us into Sports Day which is coming up in December, please see upcoming sports events below. The students are mainly focusing on track and field events. Our students in Year 1-6 have also started their swimming lessons. Our main focus for this swimming block is to increase the students water confidence, outline the importance of water safety and have a deeper look into the front crawl stroke. This is a hugely exciting time for our students. Early Years have also started a Athletics unit, with a specific focus on teamwork and sportsmanship.
In Secondary PE, our students completed their end of unit assessments. I am delighted to announce that 94% of our Secondary students are working at grades C-A. This is a fantastic achievement and demonstrates the fantastic start our students have made. Well done everyone!
