A Musical Journey to Africa and Brazil – Parent and Child Drumming Workshops
If there’s anything we’ve learnt from coming together to create music, it’s that we all have a beat inside of us, it’s incredibly joyful to share it with one another and that parents gain so much from performing alongside their children.
Over the last few months, parents and their children have been joining Mr Tom in the music room to explore the musical traditions of Africa and Brazil. From singing traditional folk songs, performing rhythms on authentic instruments, and listening to real life performers, it was inspiring to see the children’s confidence grow throughout the sessions.

There are many benefits of these workshops for both parents and children including:
- Parents being introduced to a sample of the types of music the children discover in their music lessons.
- Parents seeing their children singing, performing and interacting with other children through music.
- Parents having the opportunity to perform a style of music on instruments they’ve never played before.
- Parents and children having the opportunity to spend time with each other in a completely different environment.
- Children having the opportunity to perform with friends they don’t usually get to perform with in music lessons.
