Our Y5 & 6 boys participated in the annual Primary Sports League football tournament on Tuesday afternoon at St. Christopher’s School. Their first game was against Beacon School, and despite a fantastic performance, they fell to a 1-0 defeat. The boys were not to be disheartened and in another great performance, this time they picked up their first victory against RVIS B following a goal from Harry. Harry was on the scoresheet again, this time scoring a last minute equalizer against Bayan A. Next up, was the boy’s toughest fixture against eventual winners St Chris United. Despite creating numerous chances, the boys fell to a 3-0 defeat. Mr. Matt & Mr. Kyle led an inspirational team talk, the boys responded with a 1-0 victory vs St Chris Rovers thanks to a goal from Ali S.
The boys next opponents were eventual runners-up BSB B, a couple of lapses in concentration allowed BSB B to get a 2-0 victory. Going into the last two fixtures, there was still a slim chance of Nadeen progressing into the next round. Harry’s third goal of the day and a fantastic solo effort from Jason edged Nadeen that one step closer with a 2-1 victory over IKNS. Into the final group fixture vs ASB, both teams needed a win to progress. A topsy-turvy game with some fantastic defending meant Nadeen avoided defeat however were unable to unlock the ASB defence and the game finished 0-0.
“Considering where we were a week ago after our friendly with BSB, this performance was fantastic. The boys showed real fight and determination. We couldn’t be more proud. Well done boys”
– Mr Kyle, PE Teacher
Mr. Matt followed Mr. Kyle, and also emphasised how proud he was of the boys, “Most of the boys in this team were playing a year group above them, their performances were fantastic and I thought we were unlucky not to win more games. The boys will learn a great deal from this and we look forward to them playing more fixtures this year.
On Wednesday 9th November, 10 of our Y6 girls participated in the annual Primary Sports League Tournament at St Christopher’s School. Some of the girls attend our football club, some had played in competitions and some had never played football outside their PE lessons, but all participated brilliantly and did us proud in the 5 games we played. Thanks to great defensive play from Lila, Alessandra, Chiara, Andrea and Lydia we kept clean sheets for the first 2 games we played, with Reema making some great saves in goal. Although we lost our third game, the girls had lots of possession they stayed focused after conceding a goal and kept attacking. The girls showed great team spirit and encouraged each other.
They showed true sportsmanship and Nadeen values as they congratulated the winning team. We drew the final 2 games, in which the girls showed how much confidence they’d gained in just this tournament alone. The defence stayed strong whilst forward players Joni, Minha and Sofia pressured their opponents and created good scoring opportunities. Well done to Franca who scored a well deserved goal!
We’re really proud of the girls who represented Nadeen so well. As well as showing great teamwork and commitment on pitch, they followed coaching advice and supported each other between the games.
