Nadeen School Festive Singing – December 2022

Festive Reflection: Festive Singing

Let us cast our minds back to a blustery December evening in Dilmunia, we we lucky enough to hear the sounds of our KS1 and KS2 students performing their festive songs.

All throughout the preceding months, students had been working hard to learn their songs with the help of their class teachers and Mr. Tom, adding in actions, and ensuring they were also showing off that stage presence. Rehearsals took place in class, in the playground, in music, on the way to lessons, and I know, at home too!

On the night, a quick move of location due to Dilmunia’s breezy conditions meant that the team worked hard to set up the concert inside the Mall of Dilmunia. We were so lucky to have such accommodating hosts and their support was greatly appreciated. This change did not sway our students as they were able to act quickly, roll with the changes, and still put on their best performance.

The evening started with our youngers students and we listened to year 1 wish us ‘Merry Christmas’ all the way from Hawaii, year 2 sang all about our red-nosed friend, and year 3 described a man that just must be Santa! To round off the first show, all the students from year 1 to year 3 bundled back on the stage to wish us a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Our next portion of the evening opened up with a special performance from our school choir from KS2. They sang beautifully and set the mood for the following performances. Apparently, all of year 4 would like a hippopotamus for Christmas and I do wonder how many got their wish! Year 5 just want to celebrate Christmas every and year 6 and 7 chased Rudolph to get Santa to town! During the year 4-7 performance, our ears were also treated to a performance from our ukulele group and out bucket drummers, both fantastic musical groups and added a wonderful element to the show. A festive classic was the finale for year 4-7 and we enjoyed their rendition of the 12 Days of Christmas, in fact, we enjoyed it so much that all the staff joined the students on stage and performed the whole song with actions! This was a fantastic way to round of the evening and brought even more joy and light to the night.

How wonderful it is to reflect back on such events and be able to smile as we remember. We are already looking forward to our next Festive Singing event in 2023, when we’ll be able to sing from our very own space just across the canal!
