Migrant Workers

Migrant Workers.

The Migrant Workers Protection Society is a Bahraini registered Non-profit NGO established in 2005 whose mission is to help expatriate workers achieve basic human rights in Bahrain in accordance with international standards. We aim to achieve this by creating awareness, educating, advocating, providing basic necessities (i.e. food and clothing), translating, and facilitating repatriation for these low-income workers. We depend solely on donations from private companies and individuals to carry out this important work. Without the community’s contributions, this work would not be possible.
The Nadeen School community has come together once again to support this worthy charity and the donations and generosity have been outstanding! We have collaborated with a longstanding parent of the school, Majella Foley, and Alana McConalogue who, each year, support this charity with a collection drive. They facilitate the Winter Shoebox Appeal and as a school, we have supported this for a few years.

The initiative was introduced to all students in a whole-school assembly where Majella spoke about the Migrant Workers Protection Society and the items we could donate. Donations of shoeboxes containing both (dry) food and small items of warm clothing (such as socks/ear muffs etc.) were collected from families and staff of the school each morning during drop-off by a group of Year 7 students. The school managed to collect 76 shoeboxes! This shows that the children are aware of the charity and the gift of giving at this time of year. Some of the boxes were decorated and wrapped and included lovely messages, too!

This wonderful opportunity has been a valuable lesson for our students to understand the importance of caring for all people within our community and in true Nadeen style, they have excelled!
