World Down Syndrome Day

March 21

World Down Syndrome Day is celebrated annually on March 21st. Let’s join together on this day to raise awareness and celebrate diversity by wearing our wildest, most colourful, mismatched socks! The idea is to start a conversation, so when people ask you about your socks you can tell them, “I’m wearing them to raise awareness of Down syndrome”.

About World Down Syndrome Day…

The 21st day of the 3rd month was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down Syndrome. Every year on March 21st, World Down Syndrome Day is observed to create awareness about Down Syndrome. Why socks? The idea was created because chromosomes are shaped “like socks”.
