Learner Leaders by Ms. Kate
Having learners in a school take on leadership responsibilities is important for several reasons. They act as representatives of all learners across the school, by voicing their peers’ concerns and ideas, leaders ensure that the learner perspective is heard in decision-making processes. This representation fosters a sense of belonging and ownership, encouraging learners to engage more in their school community. They play a crucial role in promoting a positive school environment. This empowers our learners and cultivates a sense of ownership over their educational experience, making them even more invested, and providing them with enriching opportunities to WoLF – work, learn, flourish.
“Taking on a leadership role in school has helped me to understand others and be empathetic towards my peers, which is a key attribute to being a High Performance Learner. Being a Learner Leader has developed my confidence as I take on a new role.”
– by Jude Al Hadidi, Y10, Senior Prefect
Learner leadership provides essential skills and experiences that prepare our learners for their future. Taking on these roles helps learners develop key skills and values about how to think, and how to behave. Some of these include collaboration, problem-solving, strategy-planning, perseverance, and resilience, to name a few – all of which are values and attributes at the core of High Performance Learning. These leadership experiences not only build confidence but also equip them with the tools they need to become a High Performance Learner.
At Nadeen School, our learner leaders are essential in promoting a culture of inclusivity and unity. By organising events and initiatives, they encourage participation and collaboration among learners from across the school. This provides many opportunities for learners to connect, collaborate, and celebrate. This engagement not only enriches the school community but also helps learners develop important social skills, such as teamwork, communication, and conflict resolution. As they work to unite their peers, Nadeen School’s Learner Leaders help create a supportive atmosphere that fosters friendships and understanding and where all learners feel valued and included.
“Being a Learner Leader has helped me to be responsible and build my confidence to support my peers within my house and to encourage them to be the best they can be!”
– by Aysha Alisa, Y7, House Captain
There is a wide variety of roles available to our learners across both the Primary and Secondary schools and these include Head Boy and Head Girl, Prefects, Mentors, House Captains, School Council roles, Planet Protectors, and a new opportunity this year that will see a group of learners be formed to drive HPL within our school to work alongside the staff to further embed these practices into the DNA of Nadeen School.
We truly believe that providing these opportunities for our learners allows them to #bethebestyoucanbe!
